Hedwig and the Angry Inch tells the story of transsexual rocker Hedwig Schmidt, an East German immigrant whose sex change operation has been botched and who finds herself living in a trailer park in Kansas, trying to find her "other half". Read the complete synopsis.

The songs don't necessarily tell the story of the show, but I love the lyrics, they're truly unique and thought-provoking! To see what I mean, take a look through the lyrics of the off-Broadway show.

The character of Hedwig is apparently based on an East German woman that used to babysit John Cameron Mitchell! He worked on the character by performing in bars and clubs, before finally bringing Hedwig to the stage, and eventually to the screen. Read more about the history of the musical, or about the movie.

I've got the cast recording and movie soundtrack for this show, and although I enjoy them both, one definitely gets priority in my CD player - read my reviews of the CDs to find out which one, or listen to a clip from one of my favourite songs.
I have not had the chance to see this show on stage yet. :-( It was actually here in Toronto, but I didn't hear about it until too late (which led to me paying more attention to what was going on here!). I do hope to see it sometime, and I'll share my thoughts here when I do.
This show wouldn't work if you didn't care about Hedwig, so the actors are incredibly important. Here's a look at some of my favourites that have been in the show.

Once you're done looking around here, check out some of the other fantastic Hedwig sites that are out there.
