Hairspray at the Neil Simon Theatre

Hairspray had its premiere at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre from May 30 - June 23, 2002, and then opened in New York at the Neil Simon Theatre on August 15, 2002. The show won 10 Drama Desk Awards, and 8 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Actress (Marissa Jaret Winokur), Actor (Harvey Feirstein), Featured Actor (Dick Latessa), Score and Book. A national tour is currently underway, and a production opened at the Princess of Wales theatre in Toronto on April 8, 2004, closing on November 28, 2004. The London production opened at the Shaftesbury Theatre on October 11, 2007, and the show is also currently playing in South Africa. The cast recording won the Grammy for Musical Show Album in 2003.
