I was thrilled to have the opportunity to see this show on stage, and even more so when I realized how few professional productions there are of it! My mom and her friend Shelley were also along for this one!
What I remember best about this night, however, is the fact that we got there about 5 minutes before curtain, so I didn't even have time to change and had to go see the show in my t-shirt and jeans. I was mortified. :-)
However, I loved the show. I had mixed feelings about the recording before I went. I mean, the music was wonderful, but I didn't really get caught up in the emotion of the story just by listening to it. But once I saw it on stage, that all changed. The staging was wonderful. I especially liked the character of Che...how he was there, but he wasn't really there. Does that make any sense? :-)
I didn't write a review of it immediately after I saw it, so my memories are a little fuzzy, but I do remember that my favourite scenes were "Oh, What a Circus" (Che's sarcasm was great), "Goodnight and Thank You" (that was absolutely hilarious...the revolving door was a great touch!), "Peron's Latest Flame" (I LOVED the choreography, the way the aristocracy and the army went around the stage), "High Flying, Adored" (quite simply the most touching song, as far as I'm concerned!), and the Lament and Montage. "Don't Cry For Me, Argentina" was also fabulous!! The whole show was over so quickly!! I hope to see another production before too long.
