The original title of this show included the line "our story in song", which I think is a better description of it than the term "musical". Still, the Broadway production, such as it was, did include a bit of a story - take a look at the synopsis from that show.

You can also read through the lyrics from the show.

The U.S. Civil War was a time of great division and tremendous loss. More Americans were killed during this war than in all other wars combined. Read a bit about the history of the war, or read more about the development of the musical.

I've got two recordings of this show, but you only need to get one - and sadly, it's not the Broadway cast recording, because one was never made! Read my reviews of the CDs, or listen to a clip from one of my favourite songs.

I was living in New York at the time that this show played there, several of my friends were big fans, and I enjoyed Frank Wildhorn in general, so it was only natural that I ended up seeing it! And then when it closed, I went to the final show with my friends. Read more about my experiences with the show.

In all the negative reviews of this show, there's one thing I never heard the critics trash, and that was the performers. The cast of this show was amazing. Here are just a few of my favourites.
