Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was written by Ian Fleming (better known as the creator of James Bond), and published in 1964. It was adapted by Roald Dahl and Ken Hughes, with music by the Sherman brothers, into the 1968 film starring Dick van Dyke, and is a favourite of children everywhere. The musical is based on the film. Read more about the movie or about the development of the musical.
