![]() | Broadway Revival Cast. I have heard the original cast recording, though I don't own it, and although there are some great performances on that one, I think I have to prefer this one overall. Mostly because the orchestrations and quality of the recording are better, the whole thing just sounds so much more vibrant. And there are some really good performances here too from the likes of Bebe Neuwirth, Ann Reinking, James Naughton and Joel Grey. If you're only familiar with the movie, I'd definitely recommend this recording to get a feel for the stage show, all the songs from the show are included. |
![]() | London Revival Cast. This recording is really close to the Broadway one in terms of vibrancy and capturing the feeling of the show on stage! Ute Lemper makes a great Velma. I don't like Ruthie Henshall as Roxie all that much, but if you are a fan of hers, you'll probably enjoy it. The supporting cast are all very good. A fan of the show will want to have both of these, but if you're only going to get one, I would recommend the Broadway one. |
![]() | Dutch Cast Recording. This recording of the 1999 Utrecht cast is quickly moving up the ranks of my favourite recordings of this show. Including a lot of dialogue, it is the most complete recording I've heard so far. I bought it primarily because Pia Douwes, whom I adore, is Velma, and she does a fantastic job. I also really enjoy Stanley Burleson as Billy Flynn, and the rest of the cast is very good as well. If you don't mind listening to the show in Dutch, I think you'll really enjoy this CD! |
![]() | Movie Soundtrack. For sheer quality of recording, this one must be tops! The sound is incredible. It's also a really good representation of the film - in other words, if you liked the movie, you'll like this recording. Catherina Zeta-Jones and Rene Zellweger come across very well, and John C. Reilly's "Mister Cellophane" nearly steals the whole thing! There are also a few instrumental numbers and other tracks, which, combined with the other great qualities, make this CD more than worth it! |
