A story of murder, greed...and all the rest. Roxie Hart gains dubious notoriety when she kills her boyfriend, and goes on to invent her defense and manipulate everyone from her devoted husband to the jailhouse matron to the bleeding heart journalists and hack reporters. Read the complete synopsis.

For an even more detailed look at the show, browse through the lyrics from the Broadway revival, or the Dutch lyrics.

The original Chicago play was based on its author Maurine Dallas Watkins's experience as a newspaper reporter assigned to cover a series of Chicago trials of women murderers. Two films were made of the play before it was adapted into a musical. Read a bit more about the history of the musical, or a bit about the new movie version of the musical.

I have a few different recordings of this show, and hope to add the original cast soon. Read my reviews of the CDs, or listen to a clip from one of my favourite songs.

I have to admit that I haven't actually seen this show on stage yet! It came to Ottawa when I was there, but on the same weekend that I was going to Toronto to see Phantom. And then it's been playing in New York and London every time I go, but I always end up seeing other things instead...anyway, I *will* see it eventually, and will add my thoughts here when I do!

Since I haven't seen the show, most of my favourite performers come from the recordings and the movie! Take a look at my thoughts on some of the performers that have been in this show.

Once you're done looking around here, check out some of the other Chicago websites that are out there.
