Chess opened at the Prince Edward Theatre in London on May 14, 1986 and ran until April 8, 1989. It ran in New York from April 28, 1988 to June 25, 1988 at the Imperial Theatre. David Carroll and Judy Kuhn were nominated for Tony Awards. There's been an American tour, an Australian production, a Danish production, and the show is a favourite of amateur and regional companies, as well as several successful concert versions. A new production opened in Stockholm, Sweden in 2002, and closed in June of 2003. There is talk of this production eventually moving to London and New York!
