Akaash is a working class boy who dreams of making it big in movies. Through the help of some friends, he lands a big role for a future blockbuster opposite the queen of Bollywood, Rani. Read a slightly more complete synopsis of the London show, or a complete synopsis from Broadway.

I haven't been able to find lyrics for this show yet, but I've transcribed as much as I could from the CD - you can read through what I've got, and let me know if you see any mistakes, or can help me out with the Indian lyrics!

The musical takes its inspiration from the movies and lifestyle of India's equivalent of L.A. - the world of Bollywood. These Hindi films, with their elaborate musical numbers, have been compared to the golden age of Hollywood musicals of the mid-20th century. These are beginning to become a bit more mainstream with films such as "Bollywood/Hollywood", and especially in London, which has a large Indian population.

Read a bit more about the Bollywood film industry (which I confess I don't know all that much about :-), or find out more about the history of this musical.

There's only one CD of this show so far! Read my review of the CD, or listen to a clip from one of my favourite songs.

I had planned to see this show when I was in London in July of 2002, but unfortunately I underestimated how popular it was going to be, and was unable to get tickets. :-( Instead, I saw the show in New York when it opened there in 2004 - read more about that experience!

There have been some great performers in this show, on the CD, and on stage in London and New York! Take a look at my thoughts on some of my favourites.

Once you're done looking around here, check out some of the other Bombay Dreams sites that are out there.
