Original London Cast. I heard this recording long before I saw the show on stage, but it was easy enough to enjoy it on its own. There are relatively few songs for a theatre disc, and there's a fair bit of instrumental time too (for dancing). You don't get the whole story through the songs, but the songs complement the story very well. There are some beautiful moments, like "The Letter", as well as some very fun ones, like "Merry Christmas Maggie Thatcher". The CD comes with a bonus disc that includes Elton John performing three of the songs from the show. Whether you know the film or not, whether you've seen the stage show or not, I think there's a good chance you'll find something to enjoy on this disc.
