Released in 1939, Gone with the Wind still holds the box-office record for most tickets sold. It is widely-regarded as one of the greatest films ever made, and at a length of nearly 4 hours, is a pretty faithful adaptation of Mitchell's story.

The film stars Vivien Leigh as Scarlett, Olivia de Havilland as Melanie Hamilton, Leslie Howard as Ashley Wilkes, and Clark Gable as Rhett Butler. It was nominated for 13 Oscars, of which it won 8.

Although many of my friends are huge fans of the film, I saw this movie for the first time only a couple of years ago. It is an amazing achievement, and really should be seen by everybody at least once!

A DVD version has been released, but does not include any extra features, so hopefully they'll release another one sometime soon!
