The original Broadway production of Annie opened at the Alvin Theatre in New York on April 21, 1977 and played until January 2, 1983, moving first to the ANTA Playhouse, the Eugene O'Neill Theatre and finally the Uris Theatre. The show won 7 Tony Awards in 1977, including Best Musical, Best Book and Best Score. It was the 3rd longest-running musical during the 1970's. The original London production opened in 1978.
The Broadway run was followed by four separate national tours and numerous international productions. A Broadway revival played the Martin Beck theatre from March 26 to October 19, 1997, and the show was subsequently revived in London at the Victoria Palace theatre from 1998 to 1999.
The show continues to play in countries around the world, as well as in regional theatres. Visit the Music Theatre International site for upcoming productions.
