Altar Boyz is a musical-comedy spoof about a fictitious Christian boy-band on the last night of their national "Raise the Praise" tour. The Boyz -- five ultra-talented heartthrobs from Ohio -- are lead singer Matthew (the pretty-boy hunk and leader of the pack), Mark (a sensitive young man with a deep faith in Cher), Luke (a bad-boy with an "interest" in communion wine), Juan (a hot-blooded crooner with a passion for pretty girls) and Abraham (a nice Jewish boy, who's not quite sure how he ended up here - though his mother would sure like to know).
Through and in between the songs of the concert, their individual stories come out. Luke has a story about recovering from "exhaustion" (code word for substance abuse), Juan wants to locate his parents, Mark is coming to terms with an identity issue, Abraham is Jewish but finds inner peace with his friends, and Matthew must face his own sins to move on with strength and faith.
The Boyz vow to cleanse the guilty souls of all audience members before their concert is through, and end up helping themselves as well!
